What Does It Really Mean to Let Go?
p. 99
Q: What does it really mean to let go? Should 1just give up what gets in the way?
A: Yes, give up what gets in the way, but that's not enough. For many people who have practiced spiritual disciplines for along time the idea of giving up what gets in the way is nothing new. Many of these people, in spite of all the effort they have made to give up what gets in their way, usually remain thoroughly in control and still firmly in the grip of their ego. This is because it is their ego that is trying to do the giving up, and it can't work that way. Real giving up has to take place in such away that the ego in its entirety is given up, all at once. This is what letting go really means. Q: How does this happen?
A: This happens with the dawning of Enlightenment within you. When you begin to recognize aperfect purity that is stronger than the power of your own mind, you will see yourself come to your knees. That is the letting go. It is the recognition of that purity alone that consumes the very desire to hold on. 9 9
