Realize Objectivity
p. 144
Self-image is always adark corner. Most people are suffering from the same agony, tormented by ideas of who they are, who they want to be and who they don't want to be. It helps when you realize that this predica¬ ment is the human condition. It helps when you realize that almost everybody is suffering in this same misery. Realizing this can help. It can help you to see through the illusion that you are suffering in your misery isolated and alone. Because of this idea many people feel sorry for themselves. When you realize that this is the average condition of almost everyone it is the beginning of abig change in perspective. Realize it's not "your" problem. Realize that it is the problem. Realize that this one mistake is the crux of the human predicament. Try and make the effort to depersonalize every aspect of your experience, from the gross to the subtle. Realize objectivity. It's the only way out. 1 4 4 when You Have No Face Our hearts are imprisoned by our mind and intellect, locked inside by aprison of ideas about reality which creates avery convincing illusion. Become aware of the overwhelming influence of memory on your experience. Realize how pervasive the influence of memory is. See how memory, and desires that arise from memory, corrupt your awareness. Pay close attention and see the effect. It is important to be aware of the incredible subtlety in all of this. When you have no memory you have no face. When you have no face you are happy, and you are at rest. When you have no face there is no longer anything to work out, no longer anything to overcome and no longer anything to understand. 1 4 5
