Face the Truth
p. 81
Most people do not have the humility that is neces¬ sary for Enlightenment. Unable to discriminate clearly, most people react mechanically to whatever passes through their mind's eye. They are endlessly shocked by the contents of their own mind, always surprised at the garbage that arises out of the void. This inability to discriminate with clarity often leads to actions that eventually cause suffering to self and other. People like this are still in kindergarten. There is absolutely noth¬ ing to be shocked about. People stick their heads into the garbage can of their worst fears and most dubious desires and seem utterly surprised and perplexed at how they feel helpless and confused after the expedi¬ tion has been completed. "How did this happen?" they a s k t h e m s e l v e s . You need to be serious. If you are able to be serious you will be quiet and still and you will see the way things really are. You will realize that nothing you think makes any difference. You will see how nothing you ever thought makes any difference, and you will see how nothing you ever could think could ever make any dif¬ ference. Let this in. If you let this in, you will be able to see clearly. You will be able to discriminate. You will be 8 1 able to extricate yourself from the endless confusion and chaos of thought and memory, fear and desire. Face the complete illusory nature of your existence. Face it stoically, silently, without moving amuscle. Face it and see the truth. Not many people have the courage to face their own non-existence. If aperson does not want to face their own non-existence then they will never, ever be truly Free. 8 2 D o n ' t I n s i s t Q: Is it really possible to escape samsara and attain the realization of Enlightenment right now? 1always thought that it would take along time.
A: Yes, it is possible, but you must stop insisting other¬ wise. Anybody who says that Enlightenment takes lime is actually only insisting on listening to the ego screaming, "No, but 1!" "No, but me!" "No, but mine!" None of that has anything to do with Enlightenment. By continually insisting that Enlightenment takes time, you are the expression of samsara itself. 8 3
