If You Are Not Interested in Finding Your Own Perfect Death Then There Is No Point in Seeking the Guidance of an Enlightened Teacher

A: If you decide to seek out the help of aspiritual teacher your first job is to scrutinize that teacher very closely over aperiod of time. You must find out if that teacher is Enlightened, and you must find out if the teacher's life is indeed aperfect demonstration of his teaching. If you find there is agap between the teacher’s words and actions you should leave him behind. But if you decide that this person is in fact atrue Master and that you want his help then you must decide to trust his intention to set you Free. Q; 1welcome the help of an Enlightened Teacher as an assistance to furthering my wisdom, but the idea of giving away the care of my own soul to somebody else frightens me.

A: Ateacher of Enlightenment is only interested in one thing: killing you. If the teacher is atrue Master and not acharlatan then you have nothing to fear except your own death. If you are serious it means that you want to go to aplace that you do not yet understand. It is a 1 1 8 place that you may have read about, heard about and even glimpsed yourself, but as yet it still remains unknown to you. The teacher should be an expert in this unknown terrain. If the teacher is fully Enlightened he will have aperspective that you do not yet have. You cannot perfectly discern the way unless you are fully Realized yourself. Either you know where you are going and how you are going to get there or you do not. If you are not interested in finding your own perfect death then there is no point in seeking the guidance of an Enlightened Teacher. 1 1 9 You Can't Protect Your Independence and Realize Freedom at the Same Time Q: Iworr>' about dependency.

A: The path of Truth is not apath of independence. The path of Truth is apath of total, absolute dependence on the Truth. If one meets areal Teacher it's very difficult to have only acasual involvement. Ultimately it ends up being either complete involvement or no involvement at all. This is because the nature of what is being shared is Absolute. That is why it demands everything. What is demanded is your individuality. It is awrestling match between the Teacher and the student. That is what the spiritual struggle is all about. Q: There is something about giving up my individuality that is terrifying.

A: It is to receive help in facing that fear that you go to aTeacher. Don't be so concerned about dependence or independence—just be concerned with being Free. You can’t protect your independence and realize Freedom at the same time. 1 2 0
