Afraid of Losing Everything

p. 147

Q: How can Icome to terms with the fear Ifeel when 1 contemplate the possibility of being truly Free?

A: You have to be clearly aware of what it is that you are afraid of. You are afraid that you are going to lose the identification with the thoughts that you recognize as being you. There is fear that the recognition will be lost and that you won’t know who you are anymore. Even if you know that when you let go you will be Free, the fear is so great that you hold on anyway. It is only the fear of being without the security of knowing who you are. Q: That's what frightens me.

A: That means it was the right answer. Q: Could you say it again?

A: You are afraid of losing everything that you have based your entire life on. You are afraid all will be lost and that you will be in an unknown place, completely alone. If you look closely you will see who you think you are is only thoughts tied together. In your mind's eye 1 4 7 that is who you think you are. If you have no thoughts and no memory there is nobody left. You are afraid of being without apersonality that you can recognize as being you. That is why you are terrified. 1 4 8
