p. 166

Detachment Is aFree Gift of Awareness Itself Q; 1realize that Ican be detached from my mind.

A: Are you sure? Are you sure you can be detached from your mind? Q: My experience of the mind is that Iwatch thoughts and feelings pass or Ican choose to be with them. A; There’s more to it, there is something way beyond all that. It gets interesting only when you realize that you never had anything to do with the mind. It gets interest¬ ing when you find out that it was never you. When you realize this so completely that it ceases to touch you, then you no longer have to make any effort to censor or control in any way. You won't have to make any effort to pay attention because you will be attentive naturally. This is when detachment is spontaneously realized. It is an ongoing experience that reveals itself to the observer, by itself. The experience of detachment and the awareness of detachment is afact of life, afree gift of awareness itself! Also there is bubbling joy, because detachment itself is joy —they are the same thing. What does this mean? 'Tm Free! I'm Free! I'm Free!" 1 6 6
