what we're doing now is we're giving attention to consciousness and not the content of consciousness right so we're giving attention to the ground of our experience which is consciousness and we're not giving attention to the content of consciousness so as you give more and more attention to the ground of your experience and of the content of your experience than you want to because you're a curious person you want to uh you're curious about the nature of the ground of your experience and i think just i think it's good to pay attention to the fact that uh at uh at the deeper levels the experience of freedom is not in relationship to anything else so the deeper you go the experience of freedom you have will be freedom in its in and of itself not in relationship to its opposite whereas at the more superficial levels when you experience freedom it will be freedom from freedom from the content of consciousness freedom from thoughts and feelings and memories and freedom from what we you know what we call the world which also exists inside us and outside us so those are just something that i'd like you to give some attention to so it just has to do with the nature of the experience of freedom itself which in this case is has to do with your own with has to do with uh who you actually are because what you're experiencing is actually the nature of your own you're just experiencing the nature of your own self you're not experiencing any that exists outside yourself so experiencing the nature of your own self so so these are just there's just these two basic distinctions i just want everybody to give attention to that at the deeper levels when you experience greater depth when you sink to a deeper level of consciousness and a deeper level of the experience of your own self in which as we were discussing we've been discussing over the last few days it gets easier and easier to have no relationship with the content of consciousness because consciousness itself begins to be infinitely more compelling that just consciousness itself consciousness without an object consciousness itself begins to become infinitely more compelling than any content or any objects that it would arise within and that's a natural shift so at a certain level of depth and of concentration at a certain level there's a spontaneous falling away of interest in and a compulsive and conditioned fascination with the objects that arise in consciousness and one finds oneself mysteriously and miraculously compelled by the infinite nature of the ground of our own being and i think uh what's most what's most interesting what's most interesting about that is that there is something about the deepest dimension of our own uh of our own selves in this ground itself that is infinitely compelling now if someone said well what is it that's so infinitely compelling no one would be able to give you an answer i certainly couldn't and i don't know anybody who could but we can agree on if we all ha if we all sink deep enough into our own selves and so deep that we find our our attention uh being drawn towards spontaneously towards our own depth and not into any of the objects floating around on the surface we will all agree that we are infinitely compelled by that depth we find our attention being naturally and spontaneously drawn towards it and at that point we don't have to make any effort to stay focused or concentrated because we find our attention is naturally drawn into our own deepest depths quite naturally and so we find is that we're very compelled and there's an infinite and we find ourselves infinitely compelled profoundly complete we're compelled in a way that's very profound very unusual and uh and as i always say about this there's that's why we that's why we begin to understand you know great uh mystics and uh have left the world behind because that's what they wanted that's the place they wanted to remain for ever they never wanted to come out and you can see why because there's something infinitely compelling or there's something it's more than infinitely compelling words don't even do it justice but whatever is happening there it's we the the nature of what's compelling us is not relative it's not a relative fascination with something that has a beginning and an end anything that's relative is amazing it is you will get tired of it even if it's great whatever it is sooner or later you know you'll have enough of it and you want to do something else right but when you enter into this non-relative domain which uh which hardly which which happens only in relationship to this and this dimension of ourselves uh that doesn't happen so i think that uh if everybody anybody wants to know what's the nature of the deepest dimension of reality which is what spirit actually is it's whatever it is that you find infinitely compelling there's something infinitely compelling but you can't say what it is you just can't say what it is no you know words we don't have you know you could make we could make up words and we could all agree that we know that'll do but i the all we need to agree on is there's something infinitely more compelling than anything else once you get there because anything else you can do in life is gonna you know is is fascinating and as fun as either if it's intellectually compelling or if it's just totally exciting if something fun to do you know you will get to a time where you it's enough you need a break and you've kind of had enough of that you want to move on to something else and come back to it later maybe but when you awaken to the deepest dimension of your own self and you experience it's the infinitely compelling nature of the deepest dimension of your own self you can see that when you're there when you are there when you are awake to the deepest dimension of your own self you don't you don't want to leave but you have it's a it's a realm of experience and a kind of experience that you can't compare to any other kind of human experiences it's very it's it's completely unique and it's only what it is so what you need to be aware of there is that that level it's not it's not freedom in relationship to it's it's freedom itself it's not a relationship to anything else so um you know i think for also for the anybody who has any questions about whether uh you know whether the emergence of life is just some random accident or something there's something obviously very significant if the deepest dimension of our own being is infinitely compelling in a way that is indescribable but we only can agree that it is it's where the mind stops the mind can't enter that territory but we can which is what's so interesting about who you whoever you are can enter into that territory but you have to leave your mind behind and you will agree if you have if at least if you have this kind of experience at least to some degree you recognize that it's true that whatever happens there whatever i whatever i'm in touch with awake to is infinitely more compelling than anything else and my mind can't touch it and i know my mind can't touch it but when i'm awake to the deepest dimension of myself i'm not really interested in whatever my mind has to say about it anyway because it doesn't really matter it's totally irrelevant and i don't need to take it with me and so this is very important because you have this this kind of experience has almost no relationship to any into anything else that we do and all the other ways we spend our time right it's a different order it's a different order of experience it's a different order it's completely different order of experience all together it has it it occurs in a different category of experience but why it's why we have to give it a uh overwhelming importance is because if you have that experience you'll realize that experience is more compelling than there's something happening there when i'm awake to that kind of depth that is that i realize when i'm in touch with it when i'm there not at other times i realize it's more compelling than anything else even if i can't explain it or even if i have trouble explaining it or even i have to kind of think of looking to see what some of the greatest mystics have said about it even to get some idea what it what it's all about the fact that if you if you if you have enough experience of what i'm i'm talking about where you will freely admit yes that's infinitely more compelling than anything else then we you you ha if that's true and if you freely admit that that's true then you have to give give the that the experience of that kind of depth a lot of significance you have it has to you have to then make it significant and you have to bring it into the into the realm of uh you have to bring it into sorry if if you admit that that experience is more compelling than anything else then then then its significance has to be given relevance in your life that's the whole point
