I um am thinking about um what happened in our uh ho on yesterday and I had so many questions before I walked in and and then all of the questions were answered as we went through uh that process uhuh and then I'm relating it to um uh evolving culture and the process of doing that and then I'm thinking about um I'm thinking about what you're doing in terms of building um structures with with your students and with these different processes right and I'm wondering now about um the development of different uh I guess movements so the modern postmodern movement and if you could um relate that a little bit and how it's different because as I understand what we are doing we are consciously creating culture but how is that different from like how the postmodern movement developed or the modern does that make sense it's uh not there it it's fundament it's very similar these Pro how new cultural stages develop there there's something very similar happens sure it's it appears that that the the post modern stage that we're trying to get Beyond was really you know beginning to emerge what was it uh you know 150 years 100 years in different pockets of very Progressive communities of individuals in different parts of Europe and America and I guess well that's I guess what I'm wondering is how but how but how the how this develops is it happens usually out you know way outside the mainstream right in small in small groups or small communities of individuals who are actually uh Awakening to or or you know or the where these new where the new stage is is beginning to is beginning to It's Beginning to just barely begin to appear for the first time and so so they usually do appear away you know in these in small in among small groups of of very of individuals who are ahead of their time that's how it works I guess the question is so uh I guess we can look back and see how cultures were created um in history but it's hard to look forward and well it is but we this what's very different is as as these new emerging stages as as as as as these new new emerging stages uh appear there's more they they appear more and more consciously but I mean this is a very thrilling subject the whole notion of cult of cultural Evolution and cultural development and uh I mean it's just very thrilling when when you start to see that that the that how how much of the Human Experience is really about is not about the is not about the individual but it's about it's about stages of development that that literally are the lens through which we see and perceive inner and outer reality and the and the stages and these and and these uh stages aren't personal they're they're impersonal stages but they do they do um present the world uh the world will appear you know one way through the through the lens of that particular stage and all the individuals at that stage are going to see the world in the in a similar way because they're all looking through the same lens and uh it's just amazing when you really just begin to uh when one awakens to this profound uh discovery about how how Evolution works at the level of culture and uh what you know what a um it's it's it's it's very liberating and it's very just absolutely amazing to to begin to see and understand uh um how it works and you begin to look at history in a very different way you know you look at ancient history and also modern history and contemporary events uh in the same way as we begin to see each each other as individuals through the lenses of these different stages of development and and it doesn't it doesn't answer every question but it helps us to see so more uh helps us to understand so much more of H of why at the level of culture things are the way they are as I said it doesn't answer every question but it aners so many and all and it also helps us to see this larger developmental process at at work um you know through through kind of a very big historical lens so you're really taking you're really seeing everything from the perspective of a at least from the perspective of of of cultural EV cultural Evolution just you see you see what's happening here through through the lens of like 50,000 years of development and of course we're really not paying attention to much that happened you know before 5,000 years ago or 10,000 years ago but still you start to see you start to see everything through this lens and you then you start to see something's trying to happen you know when you really begin to understand how each each the emergence of each new stage is is a is an actual developmental Leap Forward in human consciousness and you can been to see it objectively and you can see how human culture has evolved and developed for the better in the most extraordinary profound meaningful meaningful ways throughout history and and so then it also becomes another source of self-confidence spiritual self-confidence in terms of evolution as a itself because you realize well something's really trying to happen and then you begin to see um and we were speaking I was speaking about this you know in a very simplified way yesterday but you know the evolution of for example I was describing you when I was using the the very the most basic St evolutionary developmental stage distinctions you know we're talking about the evolution ution of of of morality and in this case the evolution of morality is very is just very specifically a capacity to include more and more as Ken Wilbur says to include more and more of the cosmos in our Consciousness and so then when you begin to see that this that that also is an EV is is evolu is a sign of evolutionary progress and it's also something that's trying to happen because you you realize the evolutionary impuls is the the striving the striving for vertical emergence The evolutionary impulses we experience in our own in our own bodies and Minds is the striving for for for develop for vertical emergence then you begin to see that something's trying to happen in and through this the human experiment so when you look at bi the emergence at the level of biological life and you look at the evolution of life forms from very simple to more complex to more complex more you just and you look at it all and you realize it's the same DNA at work and you you just you see how isn't it amazing what's trying to happen you know as life complexifies and when you just observe it at the level of biology it's just so absolutely amazing because you just see something beyond what we can actually grasp something miraculous is trying to emerge is emerging and here we are and then the same kind of process but now at the level of culture is also at work and um and then when you when you see what's trying to happen with uh with the process of emergence at the level of culture and then we and then we look at it as from one vantage point you could we could say it's the evolution one way one way to understand a dimension a fundamental dimension of it is the evolution of of moral of of a moral capacity which we interpret as as the ability to include more and more of the cosmos in our Consciousness as self and you just and you just see that it's it's not a particular individual that's doing all this it's happening through and then you see historic it happens through you know inspired individuals people who are spiritually and uh spiritually inspired by higher and greater possibilities and they're usually the individuals at the very Leading Edge to catalyze these great leaps forward in terms of cultural revolutions religious revolutions you know social revolutions political revolutions but if but if you just stand back far enough the pro you just start to you know and sometimes it goes terribly wrong it often goes terribly wrong and then other times it goes very right and it's and there is self-correcting but if you just stand back far enough you you just seeing this something something extraordinary is happening and that's the that's basically that's that's the most amazing part of it all and obviously what we want to do here on this Retreat as we've been talking about is to for if we're interested in evolutionary Enlightenment and we want to be become evolution enlightened individuals then that's the that's the we were talking about early in the retreat together that's the new big idea and that's the that's the that's the big miracle that transforms everything and becomes an absolute non-relative source of meaning and purpose and so then as we've been saying on once we really let let this in and then we then you start seeing it everywhere and then we want our we want then we want what we want to do then all the ways we've been speaking about is we want to get out of the way which means we want to transcend The Madness of the psychological prison which we talked quite a bit about and we want to transcend all the uh unenlightened values of earlier stages of cultural development that have not yet embraced an evolutionary worldview so that we can wholeheartedly do so ourselves and then become a vehicle for the possible
