Ammachi at the Parliament of the World's Religions

The conflict within human beings, each individual that is manifested as outside conflict, war or whatever chaos and confusion that we see in the world. It's only because there are a lot of conflict and confusion within each and every individual. The society comprises of individuals. So individuals change. Unless the individual changes, a change will not happen. Nobody can completely transform the world. Uh it's like trying to straighten the curly tail of a dog. You can keep it in a tube as long as you want. Every single day you can spend hours putting it in the tube and taking it out. The moment you take the tube out the the tail will curl back. But in that process the bice we will get good bicep muscles that constant effort and actually that is what is needed. The individual must change. So the change must happen in the individual. The world is changing faster than it ever has. And technology is now racing ahead at a rate in a single day that before would take centuries with that to have that much change. Humanity now has powers that it never had before. Power to destroy life, even to destroy the world. And many people say that our ethical foundation is not keeping up with the rate of our technology. Our ethical evolution is not keeping up with the technology. How can uh a gathering like this one here at the parliament help to advance humanity in its moral and ethical and spiritual evolution? [Music] It's happening but it's a slow steady process in the scientific field. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are ready to invest in that field and who are willing to work. So there is lot of growth faster growth in in the scientific and technological field. On the contrary, in the spiritual field or in the ethical field, there are not so many people. People come for such a gathering. But you know whether they practice it in their daily life is the most important question. Some say if you write honey on a piece of paper and lick it, you won't get sweetness. Or if you simply say flower, you won't get a flower. A cow's picture won't give us milk. So simply by hearing things won't happen. I mean everything depends on how much you translate that into action. So whatever they hear definitely it's helping it's helping it's creating necessary awareness but it's not growing it's not growing or developing you know the way it's it's it's required with the with the fastness it it it's it's uh the like the urgency. The urgency is there. You know there is the call of the hour but uh you know people are not really practicing it. That's the most important thing. Awareness says you know people are coming participating listening to talks that itself shows there is inquisitiveness there is interest in the people that you know the the pro the progress is is not as is really necessary.
